I’m always hungry
Hi, I’m Lauren.
I have an outrageous appetite. I do not have a lot of money or time. And good food makes me stupidly happy.
You’ll find two kinds of recipes on this site.
The first are recipes for the everyday cooking that I do, week in and week out, to keep myself fed, deliciously, on a budget, and within a reasonable amount of time. These recipes are mostly seasonal (because have you ever had a good tomato in the winter?), mostly veg- and grain-based (to keep costs down), and usually keep well over a few days in the fridge (because I don’t have time to cook every day). This is the kind of cooking that I really, firmly believe everyone can do.
The second are recipes that I cook for, um, fun. These range from basic-but-brilliant chocolate chip cookies to a many-step, multiple-day French Bûche de Noël cake that involved candying orange peels and piping little adorable meringue mushroom doo-dads. Pull these out for a special occasion, or just read along and wonder at how I can possibly eat so much chocolate.
Whatever you choose to cook from this blog, I promise it will be good. I’ve been burned too many times by food blogs with beautiful photographs but meh recipes. It wastes time and money. I won’t do that to you. That said: I’ve only made these in my own kitchen, which hasn’t met yours, and so they may not be simpatico. Feedback? Leave it in the comments–I’d love to hear how you went!
In short, the basic premise of this weblog is: if I can do this—with a massive appetite, a small budget, little time, and no culinary training—you can, too. It just takes a bit of planning and maybe an opinionated friend—that’s me!—to point you in the right direction. And then, at the end, you get to eat!
Website design
Wondering why this website looks so slick? All credit goes to Sylvie Lee, a graphic designer and artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Especially fascinated with patterns and texture, she enjoys capturing fleeting moments through photography and creating abstract watercolor paintings.
